One of his notable positions includes working at the Gritton Lab at UIUC starting in September 2023. As an Undergraduate Research Assistant, he contributed to a project investigating the neural responses of mice navigating AI-generated mazes. His role involved sophisticated tasks such as collecting neurophysiological signals, monitoring brain activity through calcium imaging techniques, and applying optogenetics to study neuronal functions in sensory tasks.
Varied Professional Engagements
During the summer of 2024, Akshay interned at TrussHealth, an innovative healthcare service that employs artificial intelligence to enhance patient monitoring remotely. His tasks were multifaceted, including developing web applications using Node.js and React, conducting API testing, and integrating camera systems into healthcare solutions.
His previous summer was spent at Base Pair Inc., where he delved into bioinformatics, focusing on next-generation sequencing technologies. His responsibilities involved developing RNA-seq data processing pipelines and conducting genomic data analysis, furthering his expertise in the bioinformatics sector.
Additionally, before starting his university education, he gained early experience at Zeda Inc., where he researched the mechanical properties of polymer 3D prints and their applications in medical technology.

Akshay is a vibrant member of the UIUC community. He is a member of the UIUC Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and engages in innovative projects with UIUC MedLaunch. His extracurricular activities also extend to the arts, as he was a member of the UIUC Illini Awaaz A Cappella Team, performing at various events and showcasing his musical talents.

A lifelong music enthusiast, Akshay has been involved in Hindustani classical music performances and played the clarinet in the San Jose Youth Symphony for over three years.
